What is a breast ultrasound?

How is a breast ultrasound done at the clinic?

- Scan: warm gel is applied and the probe is moved over each breast and armpit. You may feel light pressure.
- Explanation: the doctor explains the findings in English and whether any follow-up is needed.
How should I prepare?
- Wear a two-piece outfit so you only need to remove your top.
- Avoid lotion or powder on the breasts on the day of the scan.
- If you still have periods, about 1 week after your period ends is often a good time, because breasts are usually less tender then.
- Bring previous breast imaging reports if you have them.
When will I get my results?
Ultrasound results are immediate. The doctor explains what she sees during the visit. If a finding needs more tests, such as a biopsy or mammogram, the clinic refers you to a partner hospital and can give you your records and an imaging CD (10,000 KRW).

What if the doctor finds something?
