What is an English medical certificate?

A medical certificate is an official document from a doctor. It states that you were examined and includes a diagnosis. An English medical certificate is written in English, so it can be read by insurers, employers or schools outside Korea. A certificate can only be issued for care that the doctor provided or reviewed at the clinic.

How do I get an English medical certificate at the clinic?

1.  Ask early: Tell the clinic when you book, or during your visit, that you need an English certificate.
2. Check your insurer's requirements: Some insurers need specific items, such as diagnosis codes, dates of treatment or an itemized receipt. Bring the list or form if you have one.
3. Consultation: Dr. Eun examines you and explains the diagnosis in English.
4. Request the documents: The certificate and any other documents are prepared. Ask the clinic about the time needed.
5. Check before you leave: Confirm your name (as on your passport), dates and details are correct.

What should I know about privacy?

Medical documents contain personal health information. In Korea, records are generally issued to the patient, or to another person only with the documents required by law, such as a consent form and ID. How much does an English medical certificate cost?

The posted fee for a medical certificate in English, including a diagnosis, is 20,000 KRW. Document fees are not covered by NHIS. The consultation and any tests are charged separately. Can I get this care in English?

Yes. The doctor who writes your certificate can explain it to you in English. Your consultation is with Dr. Eun Mi-na, a female board-certified OB-GYN who speaks English and sees patients in English. If you have medical documents from another country, such as test results, prescriptions or vaccination records, bring them to your visit. Records in English are fine. If you need an English medical certificate or other documents for insurance, tell the clinic before you leave.
