Who is this consultation for?

What happens at the first visit?

  1. Private consultation in English with Dr. Eun Mi-na about your situation, health history and questions.
  2. Pregnancy confirmation with a urine or blood hCG test if needed (see pregnancy test).
  3. Ultrasound to confirm that the pregnancy is in the uterus and to measure how many weeks along it is (see early pregnancy ultrasound). The stage of pregnancy decides which options are possible.
  4. Explanation of options, including what can be done at the clinic, what may require referral to a hospital, the risks, and how to prepare.
  5. Time to decide. You do not need to decide on the same day.

What is the legal situation in Korea?

In April 2019, Korea's Constitutional Court ruled that the criminal ban on abortion was unconstitutional, and the criminal provisions stopped applying on January 1, 2021. As of September 2026, the National Assembly has not yet passed replacement legislation, so the rules are still being settled. The clinic provides care within the current legal framework. Is the abortion pill available?

As of September 2026, abortion medication (mifepristone and misoprostol) is not yet available in Korea. The government has announced plans to introduce it for pregnancies up to 9 weeks, with a target of around March 2027, first through larger hospitals. Pills bought online are not approved in Korea and can be dangerous. Dr. Eun will explain the methods that are currently available for your stage of pregnancy.

Why does timing matter?

Options and risks depend on how many weeks pregnant you are. Earlier care is generally simpler. If you think you may be pregnant, take a test and book a consultation as soon as you can, even if you have not decided yet.

Aftercare and follow-up

  • A follow-up visit to check your recovery, often with ultrasound.
  • Advice on bleeding, pain, activity and warning signs.
  • Contraception planning, including pills or an IUD such as Mirena, if you want it.
  • An English medical certificate or documents for insurance can be requested (20,000 KRW for an English certificate).

Privacy and confidentiality

Your consultation is private. Medical records are protected by Korean law. You can come alone or with someone you trust. If you feel pressured by anyone, tell the doctor.

How much does it cost?

Costs depend on the stage of pregnancy and the care needed. Pregnancy termination is usually not covered by NHIS except in limited medical situations. Posted prices for related tests include a urine pregnancy test (10,000 KRW), a blood hCG test (30,000 KRW) and a first-trimester pregnancy ultrasound (50,000 KRW, non-covered). Ask the clinic for the total cost before any procedure. Prices may change; confirm with the clinic.
